Hello parents, and welcome to the wonderful world of Sehome Drama! This is an introductory page that will give you some info about ways that parents can help support the program. There are many different ways to be involved! Our parents have so much fun creating with us, and we hope you’ll join us!

NOTE: If your student joins a show as an actor or stage crew, you should receive an email with information about involvement, calendars, and how to sign-up for various opportunities. We use the email that’s on file with Skyward along with parent emails that students list on their audition/sign-up forms. If you have not received an email and it’s been a few weeks that your student has been involved, please reach out, because it might be wrong!

Make a Costume

Costumes! We make a lot of our own costumes. Many costumes have simple stitching so that students and families can help make them. Let me know if you like to sew and make things and we can give you a project you can work on at home in your free time! We can provide patterns, fabric, etc.

Help with a Work Party or Build Day

We have weekend work parties to help with set construction, painting, costumes, and everything else needed to put on a show. “But, I can’t sew or build, but I’m good with a hot glue gun!” you say? No problem! There are lots of tasks that anybody can do! Students in the cast are required to attend at least two build days per show. Friends, family, siblings, parents, grandparents are all welcome to help us build the show together as a community. It is so much fun and we laugh a LOT. Please join us if you can! Check The Callboard for a schedule of upcoming Build Days.

Support Marketing for the Shows

We have a “Poster Day” a few weeks before the show where the whole cast and crew spends an afternoon putting up posters around Bellingham. Parents help drive and coordinate where posters go. We can also use help with posting on various online spaces to help market our shows.

Join Us on a Field Trip as a Chaperone, Driver or Volunteer

We compete in regional and state-wide competitions and also go on field trips to take workshops or see shows. Join us as a chaperone and come along! Our parents really enjoy accompanying us on our various adventures, and if we see a show, you’ll get to see it too!

Rehearsal Snacks

Teens get hungry! There’s a drama snack cabinet where students involved in the plays can share snacks between school and rehearsal. We like to keep our drama snack cabinet stocked with healthy after-school snacks. This is an ongoing need and super important, so please drop off non-perishable snacks with your student anytime. Snack ideas include: granola bars, fruit snacks, dried fruit, beef jerky, pretzels, popcorn and tea. (The kids especially love “Throat Coat” tea which helps them keep vocal strength.) Fruit is okay during rehearsal season, since it is often eaten quickly enough so it doesn’t spoil. Please no peanuts, as we have allergies.

Intermission Raffle

Raffle. We do a raffle at intermission during the plays, and we need help sourcing/building raffle items. We’ve done something as relaxed as an “ice cream sundae kit” that was donated to as elaborate as tickets to a Seattle touring show. Up to you – but it’s a great moneymaker for our program and really fun for everyone. There will be a sign-up sent out during rehearsals.

Theater Wish List

It takes lots of odds and ends to keep a theater running. If you're excited about contributing to Sehome Drama and want to know what we need the most, check out our Amazon Wish List.

Fundraising Events

Support our fundraisers! In the past our students have planned performances, sold coffee and organized movie or gaming events. We’ll post more information on The Callboard and send out emails about what fundraisers we’re currently working on.

Sehome High School always welcomes cash or check donations. In the Drama Department, these contributions support royalty payments for productions, set and costuming needs, scholarships for students to attend thespian events, and many other costs which keep our program alive. Checks should be made out to "Sehome High School" and include "SHS Drama" on the memo line. Contributions can be sent to the Sehome ASB office or donated during any SHS Drama event.
