Introduction to Drama - Drama 1


Teacher: Kandace McGowan Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length of Class: Semester Pre-requisite: None
This is an introductory class that emphasizes speaking skills and concentrates on the tools of the performer: voice, body and mind. This class introduces acting skills, dramatic structure and vocabulary of the theater so that students will be better equipped to speak in front of an audience. All levels of previous theater experience are welcome. Monologues and group scene work will expose students to the finer points of acting.




Intermediate Drama - Drama 2


Teacher: Kandace McGowan Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length of Class: Semester Pre-requisite: Intro to Drama - Drama 1 This is an intermediate drama class that focuses on expanding skills that are introduced in Beginning Drama. Students will polish their work through scene-studies, monologues and rehearsal strategies in a variety of theatrical styles. Students will focus on movements of theater history, including Greek Theatre, Shakespeare, Realism, Absurdism, Modernism and Post-Modernist Theatre. Intermediate Drama culminates in a final Showcase Performance that will be formed for the public at the end of the semester.




Advanced Drama - Drama 4


Teacher: Kandace McGowan Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 Length of Class: Year Pre-requisite: Intermediate Drama - Drama 2 Drama 4 is an advanced theater class for students who wish to continue their skills from Intermediate Drama and who may wish to go into theatre professionally. Advanced Drama offers students the opportunity to participate in a true theatre ensemble. Students in the class will write, direct, and perform in theatre productions that will be performed for the community and for public performance at the Sehome Little Theatre. Units of study are based on the interests of the ensemble; previous units have included Book-It Theater, Interview Theater, One-Acts, Children’s Theater, and Independent Projects. This course may be repeated for credit.




Theatre Technology


Teacher: Laura McGowan Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length of Class: Semester Pre-requisite: None Theatre Technology is for students with an interest in developing work-related skills in the theatre tech and/or film industry. Emphasis is on the development of skills in technical aspects of the theatre, including scenic design and construction, scene painting, costuming, rigging, lighting and sound engineering and production, as well as individual projects in design and/or construction.




Advanced Theatre Technology


Teacher: Laura McGowan Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length of Class: Semester Pre-requisite: Theatre Technology Advanced Theatre Technology builds on the skills and outcomes developed in Theatre Technology. Students work in collaborative groups and individually to complete projects in set construction and set design; lighting design and operation; sound design and operation; stage management; costume design and construction; and fly rigging and operation. Students are trained for responsible work force positions in the technical aspects of theatre.
